There's been a void in the South Suburbs for girls to play hockey for their highschools. A decade ago or so there were some options, but those have long since passed. After some discussions with leaders within the Illinois hockey community, our group decided to take a run at getting a charter and building a combined highschool team in the South Suburbs. Since there isn't enough density at any one school we had to identify potential skaters within close proximity from a high school perspective to create a 'combined team'. After some polling we were thrilled to find that there is a large enough contingent of players interested in the program. With that, the Lincoln Way Girls HS Southsiders were born!
As the team prepares for its inaugural season, girls from the Lincoln Way HSs, Providence, Sandburg, and Lemont high schools will be taking the ice together to represent their schools and communities. This unique opportunity will allow them to be on a line with girls they grew up with or see at school, regardless of what club they play for as their primary team.
